12. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 13-094

Description
On October 30, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 13-094, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(a), Possessed, Used or Sold an Alcoholic Beverage, Any Illegal or Controlled Substance, or Paraphernalia Capable of Modifying Mood or Behavior.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until January 10, 2014.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 13-094, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year, the 2013 summer session, until January 10 of the 2013-2014 academic year.

Description
On December 10, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 13-171, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance (1)(d), Aggravated Battery.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until January 10,2014.

Recommendation

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 13-171, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year, the 2013 summer session, until January 10 of the 2013-2014 academic year.

14. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 13-160

Description
On December 14, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 13-160, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance (1)(d) Assault, Battery, or Aggravated Battery on a Teacher, Other School Personnel or an Official.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 2, 2014. 

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing have been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in expulsion Case No. 13-160, to expel the student reference therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year, the 2013 summer session, and the entire 2013-2014 academic year.

Description
On December 12, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 13-165, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(d), Battery on Another Student.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2013.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 13-165, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year.

16. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 12-163

Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-163, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On November 11, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-163, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(E), Gang Activity.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until November 30, 2013.

Recommendation

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-163, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year, the 2013 summer session, until November 30 of the 2013-2014 academic year.

17. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 12-388

Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-388, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On March 22, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-388, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(G), Disorderly Conduct.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until May 31, 2013.

Recommendation

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-388, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year.

21. APPROVAL TO RESCIND STUDENT EXPULSION ABEYANCE CASE 12-491

Description
School Board Policy 5.34(4), permits the Board to hold in abeyance, the expulsion of a student, if the student participates in a recognized alternative-to-expulsion program.  This student has not attended the Triad program, and her expulsion is reinstated.

Recommendation
That the abeyance of Expulsion Case No. 12-491, be rescinded per School Board Policy 5.34(4).

22. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #13-0034 FOR GENERATOR INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND REPAIR SERVICES

Description
Bids to provide Generator Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair Services were received from ten vendors on December 6, 2012.  The bid of R.M.C.S. was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications based on a sealed scenario.  This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.

Recommendation
That the bid of R.M.C.S., to provide 'Generator Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair Services' in an amount not to exceed $55,000.00, be approved as presented.

Description
Bids to provide 'Telephone Systems Maintenance and Equipment' were received from four vendors on December 5, 2012.  The bid of Southeastern Telecom, Inc., was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications.  This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the capital and operating budgets allocated to the Information Services Department.

Recommendation
That the bid of Southeastern Telecom, Inc., to provide 'Telephone Systems Maintenance and Equipment' in an amount not to exceed $500,000.00, be approved as presented.

Recommendation

CONSTRUCTION

25. APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT #1 TO ARCHITECT'S CONTRACT FOR THE SOUTH COUNTY BUS DEPOT PROJECT

Description

The scope of work for this amendment is to provide additional design and construction administration services to modify the design documents to add the Team Offices and work area to the project.

The total amount for these changes shall not exceed $15,760.00.  These funds are available through the project budget.

Recommendation
That Amendment #1 to the Agreement dated October, 2, 2012, with Schenkel & Shultz, Inc. for the South County Bus Depot be approved as presented.

28. APPROVAL OF THE SUPERINTENDENT'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE MONTH ENDING NOVEMBER 30, 2012

Description

The Superintendent's Financial Statements for the month ending November 30, 2012 does not reflect any unexpected trends for the second quarter of the 2012-2013 fiscal year.  The negative trend in the General Fund is starting to turn around with the receipt of property tax revenues in November.  However, the deficit will increase because of the budgeted decrease in fund balance in the General Fund due to continuing State cuts and decreases in local revenue.  With the implementation of Crosspointe software in August 2011 we are now more accurately reflecting our liabilities for payables.      

Recommendation
That the Superintendent's Financial Statements for the month ending November 30, 2012 be approved by the Board as presented.
